Muryokoji Temple

A Jodo sect temple with deep ties to the land of Waka poetry was built by Tokugawa Yaho, the 10th lord of the Kishu domain. In the precincts, there is a 3-meter-tall "Kubidaibutsu" enshrined. It was originally a Buddhist statue belonging to a subsidiary temple, but when it was destroyed in a fire in 1896, it was recast using only melted copper, leaving only the head of the Great Buddha. It is said that it will grant wishes from the neck up, and is visited by many students taking entrance exams and people making wishes.
