Former Nakasuji family residence

The former Nakasuji family residence (Kyunakasujikejutaku) was the residence of the Wasa-gumi daishoya in the late Edo period, and stands on a site facing the Kumano Kodo. The main building, built in 1852, is characterized by a three-story gazebo, a spacious 20-tatami-mat hall, and a large customer service space. This house is the largest private house in the Kinokawa basin, and boasts a grand structure befitting a large headman at the time.
