Suimon Fukiage Shrine (Minatomoto Ebisu)

According to the legend of Suimon Shrine, a divine light once appeared on the sea near Kisui Gate every night, and what was washed up on the beach by the waves was a statue of Ebisu. It is said that the residents who saw this built a shrine on Wadahama Ushima Island in Minato Village to worship it. However, during the Meiō era (1491–1500), a great tidal wave occurred, and the statue was buried in sand. After that, the residents moved the statue to its current location in Motoemisu, Nishikawagishi-cho, and it is said that it was enshrined in its current location on June 23, 1523. Additionally, Fukiage Shrine was once located in Fukiage Sanbonmatsu (present-day Uematsu-cho south), but it is said that it was enshrined here during the Tensho era (1573-1591).
