Awashima faith

A long time ago, when Empress Jingu was returning home from the Sankan Conquest, she encountered a raging storm in the Seto Inland Sea.
When the ship was about to sink, the Empress prayed to God, and a message came down saying, ``Throw the sail of the ship into the sea, and the ship will be steered in the direction it will go.''
The Empress did as she was told and arrived at an island called Tomogashima. Sukuhikona no Mikoto and Omi Takano Mikoto are enshrined on the island, and the Empress offered the spoils of war to express her gratitude for their rescue.
A few years later, the Empress's grandson, Emperor Nintoku, heard the story while hunting on Tomogashima. Therefore, in order to avoid inconvenience for the islanders, the shrine was relocated from the island to Kada, across the street, and a temple was built. This is the origin of Kada Awashima Shrine.
